Now that the Secret's out (thanks to viral Web marketing, Oprah, and Larry King Live), Jerry and Ester Hicks have responded with ABRAHAM: The Secret behind the Secret, and the whole world will finally know what's been going on in the metaphysical world all this time. Subtle energies, the Law of Attraction, intention, chakras, chi, oriental medicine — is the marriage of science and mysticism in mainstream about to take place? (No need to wait for an invitation — everyone's invited!)
Actually, I was just having fun with that first paragraph because it was only last year that I read the classic 1910 book by Wallace Wattles titled, The Science of Getting Rich (pre-Secret mania), and perhaps several more years since my journey had taken me into metaphysical territory and into the grooves of the Law of Attraction. To be clear, I'm not keyed into the Law of Attraction enthusiasm for big houses, diamond necklaces, and dream bicycles — the concept intrigues me for "energy" reasons that can have huge implications on creativity, healing, and spiritual advancement (among many other areas of life).
Related to my personal research, I just finished reading Dr. Valerie Hunt's book, Infinite Mind: Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness (Malibu Publishing Co., 2000). I was introduced to this book by Dr. Wayne Dyer while reading his book, "There's a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem" (HarperCollins, 2003). Dyer made numerous references to Dr. Hunt's work that resonated with me enough to seek it out and read it through.
Who is Dr. Valerie Hunt? She's a scientist and a physiological researcher of human energy fields. Her book biography notes:
"Dr. Valerie Hunt is internationally recognized for her pioneering research of human energy fields. [...] Holding advanced degrees in psychology and physiological science from Columbia University, Dr. Hunt has been a professor at Columbia University, the University of Iowa, and the University of California at Los Angeles. [...] The first to discover vibration patterns during pain, disease, and illness, and in emotional and spiritual states, Dr. Hunt has found scientific evidence of individualized field signatures and subtle energetic happenings between people and within groups."
To appreciate the essence of Hunt's Infinite Mind, the book jacket states:
"Infinite Mind: Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness presents the first comprehensive human energy field model based on 25 years of sophisticated electronic field research and extensive clinical studies. The reader is taken on an journey of discovery into the vibrant electromagnetic radiation field as it changes during human interaction and with environmental conditions. [...] These energy field findings, combined with human interest stories, led to stunning new information about the mind and body, the emotions and creativity, extrasensory human capacities in higher consciousness, and the mystical connection of spirit."
For a person seeking a scientific perspective on electromagnetic energy fields interacting with the biology of the mind and body, this is one work that will illuminate the path. Despite its rich vocabulary, I read each chapter with an open mind and interest in learning what kinds of results Dr. Hunt's clinical studies produced (the book also includes a number of visual exhibits: EMG's, spectrograms, spectrum schemas, plot analyses, and graphs). Likewise, for a person seeking the mystical perspective on the cosmosphere connection, consciousness, the mind-field, healing, lifehoods, spirit, and telepathic knowing, this book will provide some sensible theories.
Interestingly, Dr. Hunt's personal journey began as a skeptical scientist and progressed into the depths of the mystical, but retained a strong sense of both worlds, which makes the theories advanced in this book intriguing. The material in this book makes a rational foundation for anyone interested mind-body connections, creativity and spirituality, subtle energies, emotions, and metaphysical studies.
Dr. Hunt has authored other books and more about her work can be found on the BioEnergy Fields Foundation Web site. •
